Four fascinating art exhibitions to explore right now – online or in-person

With the Covid-19 situation getting better in some parts of the world, we start to see the opening of museums again and I’m looking forward to visiting an exhibition once again.

Today I suggest four super interesting shows that either recently opened or have been extended due to Corona.

If you are lucky to live in one of these cities, enjoy your – safe – visit! If it’s not your case, all of them have resources that you can explore from home. Yey!

1.Alexander Calder – Modern from the Start

Where: MoMa New York – Until August 7

I am a huge Calder fan, but I never saw an exhibition solely dedicated to his work, and I would LOVE to see this one that MoMa is currently showing. It’s a wonderful collection of his sculptures, mobiles and all sorts of experiments with materials, colour and movement in Calder distinctive style.

Did you know that he also created figurative sculptures at the beginning of his career?

From home: Explore exhibition photos, works and talks about his career and the making of this exciting show.

2.Surinamese School – Painting from Paramaribo to Amsterdam

Where: Stedelijk Amsterdam – Until July 11

This exhibition represents exactly one of the things I enjoy more about going to museums: discovery! When would you be able to see Surinamese paintings without visiting the country?

I find it really exciting to experience works from artists and countries I never saw before and this show puts together a collection of over 100 works from as early as 1910 till the 1980s.

Scenes of everyday life, social struggles and the development of the arts in the country are painted by artists that mainly trained in the Netherlands, as Suriname was its colony until the middle of the XX century.

3.Terapia

Where: MALBA Buenos Aires – Until August 16 (Temporary closed when this post is published)

The Argentinian museum organized this exhibition around therapy (Terapia in Spanish), psychoanalysis, the influence of Freud in the arts and how this process arrives and happens in the country around the 1930s. It goes from Surrealism to contemporary art debating the relation between art and the unconscious. It’s truly fascinating!

4.Elles font l’abstraction

Where: Centre Pompidou Paris – Until October 23

A celebration of abstract women artists! That’s what you’re going to find in this exhibition. Painting, sculpture, textiles, photography and more all created by brilliant women who have been very much neglected in art history. If you are in Paris, don’t miss it!

From home: Explore the works, artists, podcast, tours on YouTube (in French and English)

Have you visited any of them? I would love to hear from you in the comments!

Have a great week!
